Ceramic Wire Wound Elements

The construction project of ceramic RTD consists of a coil (depending on version two spirals) platinum encapsulated in a ceramic tube of high purity. The empty spaces left between the platinum coil and the inner walls of the tube are filled with a material that allows movement of contraction or expansion of platinum and during temperature variations.

The ceramic RTD construction design consists of a platinum coil (depending on the version, two coils) encapsulated in a very high purity ceramic pipe. The empty spaces remaining between the platinum coil and the pipe internal walls are filled out with a material which allow the platinum contraction and expansion movement during the temperature variations. This is precisely the main advantage of this construction type as, in this way, the hysteresis effects and permanent changes of the electric resistance values are considerably minimized, in addition to a remarkable stability over time.

This construction also ensures the protection of the platinum coil against external pressures and forces. The ceramic sensors may be used on a wide temperature range, from -200 ºC to +960 ºC, depending on the configuration. The tolerances available on the ceramic sensors varies from class 2B of W0.6 to 1/10 of W0.3, with different temperature coefficients such as 0.3850, 0.3916 ou 0.3925 ohm/K.

Due to their design, the ceramic type platinum sensors allows high durability, stability and different temperature coefficients ( TC:3916ppm ) for spiralled wired. They also serve for several applications, such as laboratory, process technology and high value-added equipment.

The applications where a highly accurate measurement is necessary should be built with this sensor type and 4 extension wires, however, the 3-wire construction is the most commonly found.

When a high accuracy measurement is necessary, the applications should be built with this sensor type, and with 4 extension wires, although the 3-wire construction is the most commonly found. It is like this: For applications requiring a high precision measurement the sensor should be built with the CWW. Although the electric connection with 3 wires is the most commonly found, that of 4 wires is the most precise one.

We also have versions of two double sensor in a single ceramic body. They are extremely durable and robust to external pressures. Our sensors measure the temperature of gases, liquids and solids, from 196 ºC to 850 ºC in temperature. With a precision between 0.012Ω and 0.12Ω at 0 ºC or between 0.03°C and 0.3°C at 0°C.
